Visiting the Portuguese synagogue

In the mourning room there was this marble written in old Portuguese mixed sometimes  with archaic castellano.

It was a very strange visit. People working here have no affinity with the word Portugal. And Spinoza who is not fully presented from a philosophical point of view is just used as an icon of the community that excommunicated him. See the books they are selling.

This synagogue used to be the larger in the all world and still contains the major synagogue library in the world : more than 30000 volumes of books and manuscripts. Like the mosque in Fès for the Muslims. All these from Al Andalus.
